LA Marathon training program: Week 1

Wednesday November 15th, 2006

EZ Run, 5mi @ 8:48 (Planned 5mi @ 9:17)

Weight: 188 Time: 6:30am Temp: 38f Weather: Cloudy Route: 5x 1 trip around sub.
Notes:

Over all uneventful run, my knee did not bother me much, still have to be careful when running over un-even ground.

At 4.2 or so miles, much to my surprise I discovered that "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO is a really good running song. Something about the beat.

Also, I need to find some better way to monitor my pace, for the first half of the run I felt I was right on time, or a bit slow, then in the last 2 miles I noticed I was ahead, I finished a full almost 3 minutes ahead of schedule, this is not a problem, other then the fact that I very much want to stick to the plan, and I am greatly in fear of burning my self out.

I am thinking about training for the cowtown half. I have 14 weeks to get my butt in gear. So far all I've done are 5k's. I'm bad about training on a treadmill and then sucking on the road. Mainly because of pacing. I need the treadmill to pace me. I do use the incline but I guess that still doesn't compare to the road.

If you need a good schdule I strongly recomend checking out Smart Coach. http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/smartcoach/ its free and it dose wonders. I went form a 39:41 minute 5k, to a 1:50:50 half marathon useing it.
